Ohio State 72, Michigan 54

If this were the NBA, it'd be really cool to see Manny Harris traded to a title contender, where he could play a nice supporting role down the stretch. Until then, his 22 point, 12 rebound performances will just wither in probable NIT-bound obscurity.

Because Sass Loves Tennis...

Another Federer-Roddick showdown, and another Federer victory. Anyone else planning on staying up until 3:30am on Saturday/Sunday for what will be a very good 24 hours of sports?

Weekend Recap

Obviously a rough few months for Steve Kampfer, who was also the victim of a mugging earlier in the academic year by UM football player Mike Milano. That hit left him with a fractured skull, and this one left him motionless on the ice.

Sports seem trivial in matters like this, and while Michigan swept the Spartans this weekend, it's safe to say that all thoughts are with Kampfer.

In other news, men's hoops got a much needed win against Northwestern, and the men's and women's tennis team recorded weekend sweeps to start the season, but as I said earlier, sports seem trivial.

Aussie Chaos

For some reason (ok, the reason is that Danny is a tennis nut), the Australian Open always gets tons of love on You Say Maize, I Say Blue - probably because Danny stays awake until 4am hoping for thrilling five-setters. There were none of those last night, but there was this wild scene:

Aiming High...

It seems like forever ago that the Michigan softball team won the 2005 National title. And since then things have been bleak for the Maize and Blue, as not a single team - football, wrestling, hockey - has returned the University back to the national stage.

However, the Wolverines are ranked 8th in preseason softball polls, and while preseason polls don't mean all that much, it's definitely a nice start.

Ugh...

This sums everything up pretty perfectly.

I suppose it doesn't help when Penn State shoots 59% from the field, or when Manny Harris scores all of 4 points on 1-9 shooting. But a 73-58 loss to the Nittany Lions is ugly, and it puts the Wolverines right on track for another NIT.

Wins over Duke and UCLA are nice, but they mean nothing when Big 10 losses start to pile up. And they're starting to pile up pretty quickly.

It Didn't Help that Michigan Lost...Again...

In light of Michigan's most hated rival of all time, the Ohio State Buckeyes, this week's White Out segment of YSMISB featured Michigan fans speaking their minds of what they could possibly hate more than Ohio State. Believe me--this was a tough question. Props to YSMISB Co-Host, Chris Cichon, for giving me the idea of the week! And let's not forget White Out's newest correspondent, Alex Assaf, who assisted in the production of this story.

Check it out later, however, because there have been some technical difficulties in getting it posted on the internet!
